What hormones are secreted by the posterior pituitary gland? Oxytocin & ADH
What is the function of oxytocin? Important in reproduction & behaviours
What does ADH do? Helps regulate water & salt in the body
Name 3 hormones produced by the anterior pituitary gland - follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) - adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) - thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) - luteinising hormone (LH) - interstitial cell stimulating hormone (ICTH) - prolactin (PRL) - somatotropin
What does ACTH do? Stimulates production of mineralocorticoids & glucocorticoids
What does prolactin do? Stimulates development of mammary glands & lactation postpartum
What does FSH do? Stimulates gamete production
What does TSH do? Stimulates hormone release from thyroid gland
What does LH do? Stimulates oestrogen production, induces ovulation & formation of corpus luteum
What does somatotropin do? Promotes growth of body tissues - cell reproduction & regeneration
