| A- or AN- | without; no example: anemia (without or no blood cell production) |
| AB- | away from example: abduction (away from the center of the body) |
| AD- | toward example: adduction (toward the center of the body) |
| ANTI- | against; to stop example: anticoagulant (medicine used to stop bleeding) |
| DYS- | difficult; painful example: dysuria (difficult or painful urination) |
| ECTO- | outside example: ectoskeleton (bones located outside the body) |
| ENDO- | within; inside example: endothermic (body temp controlled within the body) |
| EXO- | outside example: exothermic (body temp controlled outside of the body) |
| HYPER- | above normal example: hyperglycemia (high blood pressure) |
| HYPO- | below normal example: hypoglycemia (low blood pressure) |
| INTER- | between example: interdigital (between the toes) |
| INTRA- | within example: intramuscular (within the muscle) |
| OLIGO- | very little example: oliguria (very little urine production) |
| PERI- | around example: perioperative (around or during the surgery) |
| POLY- | many; excessive example: polyuria (excessive urine production) |
| POST- | after example: postoperative (after the surgery) |
| PRE- | before example: preanesthetic (before anesthesia) |
| SUB- | below example: subcutaneous (below the skin) |
| SUPER- | above example: superimposed (above the surface) |
