What does adrenaline do? Increases blood flow, stimulates and increases cardiac output & increases myocardial contractility.
What does atropine do? Blocks the action of certain receptors of the parasympathetic nervous system.
When is atropine used? Used to manage bradycardia and arrhythmias.
What does calcium gluconate do? Treats hypocalcaemia & to manage ventricular fibrillation.
Over what time period should calcium gluconate be given? 20-30 minutes.
What does Dobutamine do? Increases cardiac output.
When is dobutamine used? When hypovolemic shock is unresponsive to IVFT.
What is lidocaine used for? Used to treat myocardial infarction and arrhythmias.
What is doxapram used for? Stimulates respiration.
When is the use of doxapram contraindicated? In dogs sedated with morphine.
What is dexamethasone used for? Anti Inflammatory.
What species is extremely sensitive to dexamethasone? Rabbits.
What is naloxone used for? Opioid antagonist, counters the effects of an opioid overdose.
What is atipamezole used for? Used to reverse alpha-2 agonists.
What is sodium bicarbonate used for? Used post resus to prevent build up of acid in the body & to manage severe metabolic acidosis.
