What are blood smears good for? They can be used to evaluate the morphology of the cells and their health status.
Eosinophilic An acidic dye. Stains basic structures pink/red
Basophilic A basic dye. Stains acidic structures purple/blue
Von Willebrand Disease Commonly inherited bleeding disorder Causes: Deficiency in clotting protein that impairs platelet stickiness & clumping Symptoms: Range depending on severity but prolonged bleeding, bruising, and spontaneous hemorrhage Diagnosis: Laboratory blood tests
Hemangiosarcoma an incurable highly malignant tumor that occurs in the walls of blood vessels of any tissue (often the spleen).
Leukemia when immature WBCs are produced in too great a quantity and crowd out the other cells (RBCs & Platelets) in the blood. Without enough RBCs to supply O2, platelets to clot, and normal WBCs to fight infection the patient suffers.
How can leukemia be diagnosed and treated? -Initial diagnosis through blood tests & confirmed with bone marrow biopsy. -Treatment includes chemotherapy in attempt to prolong life
