What does plasma contain? mostly water and proteins
What is bloods usual pH about 7.4
How do you evaluate cardiovascular health upon intake? Mucous Membranes and Capillary Refill times
Within how many seconds should the pink color of the gums return? Within 2 seconds
What can dry, sticky, or tacky feeling gums indicate? Can signal dehydration
What does white or pale gums indicate? sign of shock or low red blood cells.
What does blue of cyanotic gums indicate? sign of low blood oxygen (hypoxia). You could see this in a choking animal
What does yellow or icteric gums indicate? sign of a liver or kidney problem or destruction of red blood cells.
What is the centrifuge used for? Used to spin down blood.
How does blood separate? • Blood separates into its component parts based on weight • Heaviest parts will be in the bottom of the tube.
Breakdown of plasma -water (about 92%) -proteins -lipids -sugars -electrolytes
What is the difference between plasma and serum? Serum is plasma without clotting factors such as fibrogen.
