| Runt | Young animal smaller than its contemporaries |
| Feeder | Unfattened young animal with good potential to be rapidly and easily fattened |
| Stocker | Relatively thin feeder animal purchased to utilize low-quality feed. |
| Scrub | Animal inferior in breeding and individuality |
| Stud | Reproductive active male for hire for breeding. |
| Weanling | Recently weaned animal |
| Yearling | Animal which is one year old |
| Stag | An animal castrated after sexual characteristics have developed. |
| Cryptorkid | Male animal with single functioning testicle |
| Bovine | Relating to cattle |
| Bull | Uncastrated malebeef or dairy cattle |
| Bullock | Male cattle castrated after puberty and secondary sexual characteristics have developed |
| Bob veal | Slaughter calves younger than three weeks old |
| Calf | Young cattle |
| Calving | Parturition in cattle |
| Cow | Female cattle who has had a calf |
| Doogie | A motherless calf |
| Freemartin | Female twin of a bull calf, usually sterile |
| Heifer | Female bovine which has not had a calf |
| Heiferette | A heifer that has calved once and is then fed for slaughter. |
| Springer | Female bovine at advanced stage of pregnancy |
| Steer | Castrated beef/dairy animal |
| Veal calf | Slaughter calves, usually less than three months old |
| Ovine | Pertaining to sheep |
| Ram | Uncastrated male sheep |
| Lambing | Parturition in the sheep |
| Ram lamb | A young male sheep |
| Wether | A castrated male sheep |
| Hogget | A young sheep between weaning and its first shearing |
| Ewe | Female sheep |
| Ewe lamb | Young female sheep |
| Cosset | A lamb raised without its mother |
| Lamb | Young sheep |
| Buck | Male sheep |
| Porcine | Relating to swine |
| Gilt | Female swine which had not had a litter |

| Filly | A female horse younger than 2 years old that has not had a foal |
| Stallion | Uncastrated male horse |
| Mare | A female horse older than 2 years |
| Matron | A mare that has had a foal |
| Pony | A small type of horse under 14.2 hands(47 inches) at the withers |
| Gelding | Castrated male horse |
| Jack | Uncastrated male donkey |
| Jenny | Female donkey |
| Hinny | Offspring of a stallion and a Jenny |
| Mule | Offspring of a mare and a male donkey |
| Hand | About 4 inches length, used in measuring horses |
| Stud horse | A horse sold for its breeding services |
| Light horse | A horse between 14.2 and 17 hands high at the withers, used for riding, showing, parades, racing and as stock horses. |
| Draft horse | A horse over 16 heads high at the withers used for work |
