Signalment Patient, breed, sex, age, name, reproductive status.
During intake VT and assistants should be observing? Gait, Mental Status, Body conformation, Neurological problems, Overall general body condition/status.
Gait Manner in which patient walks/carries themselves
Body conformation Body condition/shape
Vitals TPR, weight, and CTR
Ataxic/ataxia Wobbly/of gait
Variations in temp can be due to sickness or Stress, environmental, or excitement
Variations in resp can be due to sickness or Stress, exercise, excitement, environmental.
What are you looking for when looking at breath? Depth, quality, degree of effort, breaths per minute
Dog breath per minute 10 - 40
Cat breath per minute 20 - 30
Variations in pulse can be due to sickness or Stress or excitement
Dog normal BPM 60 - 140
Cat normal BPM 160 - 220
What should be collected in patient Hx Signalment, Diet, Behavioral Hx, Surgical Hx, Medical Hx, Genetic Hx, *Chief Complaint*
When asking about Hx, always Ask open ended questions, never leading questions!
BCS Body Score Condition
Signs of neural issues Ataxic, head tilt, uncontrollable movment
Signs to grab a DVM immediately Red, blue, pale gums. labored breathing, any other signs of distress.
Aural Thermometer Ear thermometer
Which thermometer is more accurate Rectal thermometer
Temp for dogs/cats 99.5 - 102.5
PE Vet puts hands on the dog to asses body condition, etc.
Pen light is used to check eye reflexes
Otoscope is used to Look inside ears, and mouths of small animals
Palpebral reflex Contraction and Dilatation of the pupil
Common abnormality DVM's look for Swelling, ulcers, odor, masses, alopecia, discharge, infection, injuries, etc.
How many quadrant lung have? 4
Murmur Bad sounding heart - swish
Arrhythmia Bad heart beat
Stethoscope used to listen to heart/lungs
Skin Turgor Test to see how hydrated an animal is (pull up the skin, see how long it takes to set back into place - should immediately)
