Wellness A state of optimal health that encompasses al the dimensions of well-being.
Healthy practices: Regular physical activity/proper nutrition/Emotional and spiritual balance/Eliminating unhealthy behaviors.
Physical wellness Includes maintaining a healthy body weight and achieving physical fitness. Also includes proper nutrition, performing self-exams, and practicing personal safety.
Emotional wellness(mental health) Includes social skills, positive interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, and the ability to cope with stress. The ability to respond to life situations in an appropriate manner.
Intellectual wellness Keeping your mind active through life-long learning
Spiritual Wellness Having a sense of meaning and purpose in life.
Social Wellness Developing and maintaining meaningful interpersonal relationships
Environmental wellness Includes the influence of the environment on your health, as well as your behaviors that have an effect on the environment.
Occupational wellness A high level of satisfaction in your job or chosen career.
Financial wellness The ability to live comfortably on your income and have the means to save and manage money responsibly
Healthy People 2020 is a set of wellness goals established by the U.S. government
Healthy People 2020 primary goals Attaining high-quality, longer lives/Reducing the risk of injury and premature death/Achieving health equity/Eliminating disparities/Improving the health of all groups
Physical Activity All physical movement, regardless of the level of energy expended or the reason you do it/Can involve occupational, lifestyle, or leisure activities
Exercise A type of leisure-time physical activity/Performed specifically to enhance health and-or fitness/Involves planned, structured, and relatively high-intensity activities like fitness/conditioning activities and sports
Benefits of exercise Reduced risk of cadiovascular disease cancer and diabetes/Increased bones mass/Delayed aging/Increased longevity/Improved psychological well-being
Cardiorespiratory Endurance Measure of the heart's ability to pump O2 rich blood to the working muscles during exercise and of the muscles' ability to take up and use the O2.
Muscular Strength Maximal ability of a muscle to generate force.
muscular endurance Ability of a muscle to generate submaximal force over and over again.
Flexibility Ability to move joints freely through their full range of motion.
Body composition The relative amount of fat and fat-free tissue (muscle, organs, bone) found in the body.
