Prefixes & Plurals in Veterinary Terminology

AB- Away from.
AD- Towards.
DYS- Painful, difficult or bad.
EU- Good, easy or normal.
ENDO- Within, inside.
EX- & EXO- Outside, without, out of, away from.
ECTO- Outside.
HYPER- Increased, more than normal.
HYPO- Decreased, depressed, less than normal.
INTER- Between.
INTRA- Within.
POLY- Many.
OLIGO- Scant or little.
PRE- Before.
POST- After.
SUB- Below, under, less.
SUPER- & SUPRA- Above, beyond, excessive.
A- & AN- Without or no.
ANTI- Against.
BRADY- Abnormally slow.
CONTRA- Against, opposed.
DE- Remove, loss of, take away.
DIA- Through, apart, across, between.
DIS- Reversal, separation.
EPI- Above.
MAL- Bad, poor.
PATH/O- Disease.
PY- Pus.
TACHY- Abnormally rapid.
ANKYL/O- Bent, looped, fused.
AUTO- Self.
BI- Two, twice, double.
CRYPT/O- Hidden, concealed, depression on a surface.
INFRA- Below, beneath.
LITH/O- Stone, calculus.
MEGAL/O- & MEGA- Abnormally large.
NECR/O- Dead, decaying.
NEO- New, recent.
PHAG/O- Eating, swallowing.
PSEUD/O- False.
SCLER/O- Hardening.
If the singular ending is: s, ch, or sh Add -es.
If the singular ends in 'y' Remove -y and add -ies.
If the singular word ends in 'is' Remove -is and add -es.
If the singular ending is 'um' Remove -um and add -a.
If the singular word ends in 'us' Remove -us and add -i.
If the singular ending is 'a' Remove -a and add -ae.
If the singular word ends in: ix, ex or yx Remove -ix, -ex, -yx and add -ices.
If the singular word ends in 'ax' Remove -ax and add -aces.
If the singular word ends in 'ma' Add -s.
If the singular ending is 'oma' Remove -oma and add -omata.
If the singular word ends in 'nx' Remove -nx and add -nges.
If the singular ending is 'on' Remove -on and add -a.
