Serratus dorsalis - caudal part ORIGIN - lumbar portion of thoracolumbar fascia INSERTION - caudal border ribs 11-13 ACTION - expiration POSITION - dorsal surface of thorax, deep to trapezius
Scalenus ORIGIN - transverse processes cervical vertebrae INSERTION - lateral surface ribs 3-8 (3 different heads) ACTION - neck flexion, unilaterally for lateral flexion
Rectus thoracis ORIGIN - T1 INSERTION - ribs 2-4 ACTION - inspiration POSITION - ventral (inferior) to scalenus
Rectus abdominus ORIGIN - sternum and costal cartilage of ribs INSERTION - unites with pectineus tendon with pre-pubic tendon to pelvis ACTION - compression of abdominal viscera, flexion of trunk, contraction aides expiration, urination, defecation, parturition
Rectus abdominus POSITION Most ventrally located muscle
External abdonimal oblique ORIGIN - 'serration like', ribs 4-12 and trunk fascia INSERTION - broad aponeurosis on ventral part of abdo wall ACTION - compression of abdo viscera, contraction aides expirations, urination, defecation, parturition FORM - fibres run caudoventrally
External intercostal ORIGIN - caudal border of each rib INSERTION - cranial border of next rib (moving caudally) ACTION - inspiration FORM - fibres run caudoventral POSITION - between ribs, externally
Internal intercostal ORIGIN - cranial border of each rib INSERTION - caudal border next rib (moving cranially) ACTION - expiration FORM - fibres run cranioventral
Internal abdominal oblique ORIGIN - tuber coxae INSERTION - rib 13 and cartilage of rib 12 ACTION - abdo compression and visceral support POSITION - lies medial/deep to external abdo oblique
Transversus abdominus ORIGIN - 8th costal cartilages and last lumbar process tuber coxae INSERTION - inner surface rectus abdominus m. ACTION - abdo compression and visceral support POSITION - note fibre direction
Fascia - Linea alba POSITION - ventral midline Separates left and right rectus abdominus
Fascia - Internal rectus sheath ORIGIN - created by the aperneurosis of external abdo oblique, interal abdo oblique and transversarius POSITION - thicker cranially, not evident caudal to caudal border of internal abdo oblique
Fascia - External rectus sheath ORIGIN - created by the aperneurosis of external and internal abdo obliques
Inguial canal - External ring Male- passage for process vaginalis and descent of testicles Females - vaginal process, round ligament and fat
Pelvis - Levator ani ORIGIN - medial edge shaft of ilium, pelvic symphysis INSERTION - 7th caudal vertebrae ACTION - press tail against anus, unilaterally lift tail cranial and lateral POSITION - medial and caudal to coccygeus
Pelvis - Coccygeus ORIGIN - ischiatic spine INSERTION - transverse process 2-5 caudal vertebrae ACTION - press tail against anus, lateral flexion POSITION - lateral to levator ani
Pelvis - Sacrotuberous ligament ORIGIN - sacrum INSERTION - ischial tuberosity
Diaphragm - Central tendon FORM - up to 21% of surface area POSITION - surrounded by muscular portion
