General terms that appear often in anatomy

| Fossa | A depression or hollow in a bone |
| Notch | A depression in a bone which often provides stabilisation to an adjacent articulating bone |
| Tubercle | A small, rounded part of a bone |
| Process | A projection/outgrowth of tissue from a larger body |
| Condyle | A round prominence at the end of a bone - most often part of a joint |
| Cutaneous | Relating to the skin |
| Brachi | The upper arm |
| Cephalic | Relating to the head |
| Cleido | Relating to the clavicle |
| Cervical | Relating to the cervical vertebrae (neck) |
| Omo | Relating to the scapular |
| Profundus | Deep (think 'profound') |
| Nuchal | Relating to the nape of the neck |
| Rami / ramus | A branch or elongated process |
| Brevis | Short |
