Why is a morning sample preferred over any other time? More concentrated and less likely affected by diet
What are the advantages of a voided sample? Easiest
What are the disadvantages of a voided sample? Not for bacteriologic culture, increased WBC, and it is difficult in the cat
What is the advantages of bladder expression? Non-invasive
What is the disadvantages of bladder expression? not for culture and sensitivity, make take a few minutes, reflux to the kidneys, not for obstructed animals or large animals, falsely increase RBC
What is the advantages of catheterization? good for culture and sensitivity
What is the disadventages of catheterization? sterile technique, sedation required, possible RBC and WBC, diffecult in females
What is the advantages of cysotcentesis? good for culture and sensivitity, no distal urethra contamination
What is the disadvantages of cysotcentesis? invasive, increased skill level, can rupture bladder, occasional RBC, need calm animal
