Key Health and Safety Terminology
| Term | Definition |

| Hazard | anything that can cause harm |
| Risk | the chance that somebody will be harmed by a hazard |
| Risk assessment | evaluation of risks and hazards |
| Accident | an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly |
| Injury | ab instance of being harmed |
| Hierarchy of control | a system for controlling risks in the workplace |
| Biological | bacteria, viruses, insects, plants, birds, animals and humans, etc |
| Chemical | depends on the physical, chemical and toxic properties of the chemical |
| Ergonomic | repetitive movements, improper set up of workstation, etc |
| Physical | radiation, magnetic fields, pressure extremes (high pressure or vacuum) noise, etc |
| Psychosocial | stress, violence, etc |
| Safety | slipping/tripping hazards, inappropriate machine guarding, equipment malfunctions or breakdowns |
