Recumbent Lying down. A modifying term is needed to describe the surface on which the animal is lying.
Subcutaneous Situated or applied under the skin
Arrhythmia Abnormal pattern of electrical activity in the heart. Abnormal heart rhythm.
Isoflurane Widely used inhalation anesthetic.
Antimicrobial Kills or inhabits the growth of microorganisms, such as bacteria.
Bactericidal Substance that kills bacteria.
Autoclave A sterilization unit that creates high-temp, pressurized steam to clean equipment.
Metzenbaum Scissors used for cutting fine, thin tissue.
-ectomy Surgical removal.
Ovariohysterectomy The surgical removal of the uterus and ovaries.
Ventral Pertaining to the underside of a quadruped, or denoting a position toward the abdomen.
Vaccine A biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular disease.
Elixir A solution of a drug dissolved in sweetened alcohol.
Suspension A drug where the particles are suspended but not dissolved.
Systole The contraction of heart chambers to pump the blood into body tissues and lungs.
