Term | Definition |

Resting Heart Rate | The number of times the heart beats per minute while at complete rest. |
Target Heart Rate | A specific age-based pulse rate to be maintained during aerobic exercise to ensure optimal cardiovascular function |
Cardiovascular Fitness | Ability of the heart, blood vessels and respiratory systems to supply oxygen and nutrients to the muscles during exercise. |
Anaerobic | Exercise at high work intensity during which the need for oxygen exceeds the capacity of the circulation to supply it and an oxygen debt is incurred. |
Aerobic | Exercise in which energy is supplied by oxygen and is required for sustained periods of generally 20 minutes or more. |
Endurance | The time limit of a person's ability to maintain either a specific force or power involving muscular contractions. |
Warm Up | A program of gradually increasing activity to raise muscle temperature and heart rate in preparation for more strenuous exercise. |
Cool Down | A period following strenuous physical activity in which stretching or milder exercise is performed to allow the body gradually to return to normal. |
Cooperation | The action of working or acting together for a common purpose or benefit. |
Etiquette | Conventional requirements as to proper social behavior. |
Pulse | The rhythmic contraction and expansion of an artery at each beat of the heart, often discernible to the touch at points such as the wrists. |
Team Work | Cooperative effort by the members of a group or team to achieve a common goal. |
Vigorous Exercise | A form of exercise that is intense enough to cause sweating and/or heavy breathing/ and/or increased heart rate to near maximum |
Moderate Exercise | A level of exertion during exercise that raises your heart rate to a point where you sweat and feel you're working, yet you're able to carry on a conversation. |
Healthy Fitness Zone | Satisfactory levels of flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and body composition that is needed for good health. |
