ROME Study stack

TermDefinition
What is Republic? A republic is a form of government in which the leader is not a king or queen but someone put in office by citizens with the right to vote. In a republic, the citizens have the power.
What is Apennines? Another mountain range that runs all the down the boot from north to south.
What is a legion? They reorganized their soldiers into smaller groups called legions. Each legion had about 6,000 men and was further divided into groups of 60 to 120 soldiers. These small groups could quickly cut through enemy lines.
Who was Aeneas? Aeneas was a Trojan hero. He and a band of followers, it said that thay sailed the Mediterranean Sea after the Greeks captured Troy.
What is Etruscans? Etruscans played a major role in shaping Roman civilization.
Who are Romulus and Remus? The traditional story is that twin brothers named Romulus and Remus that founded the city.
Who were the Tarquins? The ruling family, called the Tarquins, grew more and more cruel.
Who were the Latins? Latins were the local people
Who was Virgil? Roman poet Virgil.
What was Rome's Geography like? Mostly water, mountains, and islands.
