| Term | Definition |
| Analgesics | are drugs that reduce the perception of pain without loss of other sensations. |
| Anthelmintic | general term used to describe compounds that kill various types of internal parasites (helminths, or worms). |
| Antibiotic | is often used to interchangeably with the term antimicrobial. |
| Anticonvulsants | drugs used to control seizures. |
| Anti-inflammatory Drugs | drugs that relieve pain or discomfort by blocking or reducing the inflammatory process. |
| Antiemetics | are drugs that prevent or decrease vomiting. |
| Antimicrobial | drugs that kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms or microbes, such as bacteria, protozoa, viruses, or fungi. |
| Antiseptics | chemical agent that kills or prevents the growth of microorganisms on living tissue. |
| Bactericidal | kills bacteria |
| Bacteriostatic | inhibits bacterial replication |
| Bronchodilator | drug that inhibits bronchoconstriction |
| Continuous Rate Infusion (CRI) | drugs that are given over long periods of time, ranging from hours to days. |
| Controlled Substance | is defined by law as a substance with potential for physical addiction, psychological addiction, and/ or abuse. |
| Corticosteroid (cortisone) | a glucocorticoid |
| Disinfection | The destruction of pathogenic microorganisms or their toxins; the destruction of vegetative forms of bacteria on inanimate or nonliving objects; may not necessarily include spores or spore-forming bacteria |
