Term | Definition |
Cardiovascular Endurance | Ability of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels to function efficiently when a person is exercising the body. |
Muscular Strength | The amount of force the muscles can produce. |
Flexibility | The ability to move the joints through a full range of motion; a part of fitness that requires long muscles. |
Body Composition | The makeup of the body's tissues, including muscle, bone, body fat, and all other body tissues. |
Muscular Endurance | The ability to contract the muscles many times without tiring or to hold on contraction for a long time. |
Exercise | Physical activity that is done to help increase your physical fitness. |
Type | The activity you choose to build your fitness; part of the FITT formula. |
Heart Rate | The number of times the heart beats each minute. |
Intensity | How hard a person performs physical activity; part of the FITT formula. |
Frequency | How often physical activity is performed; part of the FITT formula. |
Time | How long a person performs an activity; part of the FITT formula. |
F.I.T.T. | Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type. |
Rest | The point where your body recuperates from energy expended. |
Specificity | The principle of specificity states that sports training should be relevant and appropriate to the sport for which the individual is training in order to produce the desired effect. |
Overload Principle | It means that in order to improve, athletes must continually work harder as they their bodies adjust to existing workouts. |
Regularity | Set up a regular schedule for exercising. |
Progression | As your fitness level improves, your training should become more difficult and the workload greater. |
Force | Strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement. |
Motion | The action or process of moving or being moved. |
Rotation | Using or relating to a circular movement above an axis or center. |
