what type of diuretic is spironolactone?   potassium sparing diuretic. it blocks the aldosterone receptor

adverse effects of spironolactone?   hyperkalemia, metabolic acidosis, hormone related sid eeffects (menstrual irregularities and gynecomastia). the latter effect is because of structural similarity to sex hormones.
