Basic Word Structure - roots and rules

Root word | Primary term gives the essential meaning |
Suffix | Word part at end |
Prefix | Word part at beginning |
Combining vowel | 'O' is frequently shown as the combining vowel at the end of the root word. This is dropped when the suffix also begins with a vowel. |
Word analysis process | Begin at the end of the word then move to the beginning and across eg. gastr/o enter/o logy = study of stomach and intestines |
