fertile crescent -are cures between the Mediterranean sea and the Persian gulf.
Mesopotamia -in Greek means,between the river.
ziggurate -a Sumerian temple made of sun-dried brick that was dedicator to the chief god or goddess of a particular city-state.
city-state -in each city and the land,its controlled and formed a city-state, and a political unit with its own government.
dynasty- -a family of rulers whose right to rule is hereditary.
cuneiform- -Sumerian writing.
Sargon 1- -king Akkad in Mesopotamia; he is considered the founder of Mesopotamia and conquered many cities along the middle Euphrates to northern Syria. He established trade routes with the Indus Valley,the coast of the Oman island, and he shores of the Persian G.
Hammurabi- -king of Babylonia; he was a brilliant military leader who brought all of Mesopotamia into the Babylonian empire. he is known for his uniform code of 282 laws, the earliest known set of written laws.
Indo-Europeans- -great pride.
Steppes- -a government run by the people.
Nebuchadnezzar II -a strong man who seized power by force and claimed to rule for the people.
Judaism- -Athenian statesman;he introduced the first civil democracy in Greece and created the boules.
Torah- -ancient Greek ruler often called the "father of democracy." He incensed the size of the council that governed Athens to 500,and he reorganized Athenian tribes on a geographical rather than familial basis.
Abraham- -the type of governing system were all people vote directly on an issue.
Covenant- -a chief of state of ancient Athens.
Patriarch- -a military formation composed of rows of soldiers standing shoulder to shoulder caring pikes or heavy spears.
Moses- -Athenian statement; he encouraged the spread of democracy in the Athens and the growth of the city-state's power.
Exodus- -Greek philosopher of Athens; his teaching style was based on asking question. He wanted people to question on their own beliefs. He was arrested and condemned to death for challenging authority.
Diaspora- -Greek philosopher; a student of Socrates, he started a school in Athens called the Academy. In The Republic he describes an ideal society run by philosopher-kings.
Monotheism- -Greek philosopher and student of Plato; he taught that logic was the tool for any necessary inquiry; his work later became the basis for medieval, thread.
Cyrus the Great- -clear and ordered thinking.
Darius I- -the process of making inferences.
Strap- -Greek poet, he wrote the epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey, which tell stores set during and after the Trojan War.
Xerxes- -a type of poetry that gained its name from the lyre, an instrument that played while the poetry was sung.
Zoroaster- -Greek historian; his most famous work is The Histories,which describes major events of the Persian Wars
Dualism- -Greek historian of Athens; who wrote The History of the Peloponnese War.he is regarded as the first critical historian and is often ranked as the greatest historian of antiquity.
