plebs and partition

republic a form of government, elected officials work for the interests of the patricians, had a senate and had consuls
consul 1 of 2 people that shared a command of the army, senate advises them
tribune spoke for the plebeians to the senate and the consuls, can official, elected by roman republic plebeians, protect the rights of plebeians
patrician upper class citizens, small group of wealthy land owners, advised etruscan king, rich men, had held a lot of say in the government, took over government once they kicked out etruscan king
plebeian a common person, had no say in the government, they are like peasants, made up 95% of Rome, rebelled against patrician rule, after 2 years of rebelling, they finally gained power and rights
senate a group of 300 men that partitions elected, senetors serve for life, they also were appointed to do other jobs, like being a judge or appointing other government officials
conflict of orders the struggle between plebeians and patricians
veto the power to overrule actions by the senate and/or government officials that they thought were unfair or wrong
Twelve Tables partitions agreed to put laws on these hung on a wall, were a major victory for the plebeians,
Cicero a famous roman state man, captured this spirit when he wrote, " the people's good is the highest law"
consul of plebs plebeians elect a lawmaking body, made only in support and for plebeians
