Bulimia Nervos Eating disorder with binge eating followed by vomiting, purging, and depression.Bulimia Nervos
Dementia Loss of intellectual ablilities with impairment of memory, judgment, resoning, and personality changes.
Mania Extreme excitement, hyperactive, over talkative.
Anorexia Nervosa Eating disorder with excessive dieting, and refusal to maintian a normal body weight.
Amnesia. Loss of memory.
Anxiety Disorders. Characterized by unpleasent tension, distress, and avoidance behavior; examples are painc disorders, phobias, OCD, PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder.
Phobia. Irrational or disabling fear (avoidance) of an object or situation.
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Electric current used to produce changes in brain wave patterns resulting in seizures and convulsions. Effective treatment for depression and schizophrenia.
Post-traumaic stress disorder. Anxiety related syptoms appear after personal experience of a traumatic event.
Paranoia. Overly suspicious system of thinking; example: The government is out to get me.
Apathy. Absence of emotions; lack of interest or emotional involvement.
Affect. External expression of emotion, or emotional response.
Dissociative disorder Another term for Mulipe Personalities.
Mutism. Inability to speak.
Obsessive-Compulsive disorder. Anxiety disorder in which recurrent thoughts and repetitive acts such as washing hands many times, or locking and re-locking the door.
Schizophrenia. Chronic phychotc disorder that may include hallucinations, disorganized speech and behavior.
Sexual disorder. Paraphilias and sexual dysfunction.
Substance related disorder. Regular overuse of psychoactive substances (alcohol, amphetanines, cannabis, cocaine, and sedatives) that affect the central nervous system.
Play therapy. Treatment in which a child, through the use of toys expresses conflicts and feelings unable to be communicated in a direct manner.
Depression. Major mood disorder with chronic sadness, loss of energy, hopelessness, suicidal impulses and thoughts.
