| alluvial fan | fan shaped deposit of sediment located at the base of a ravine or at the junture or a tributary with the main stream |
| Archipelago | a large group of islands usually in a chain |
| atoll | a ring like coral island and reef that nearly or intirely encloses a lagoon |
| bay | a body of water partially enclosed by land but with a wide mouth that opens to a sea |
| canyon | a narrow valley with steep cliff sides -- cut by running water |
| cape | a point of land projecting into a body of water |
| channel | a broad strait especially one connecting two seas |
| continent | one of the large principal unbroken land masses of the earth |
| continental shelf | the part of the sae floor that slopes gently down from the continents |
| delta | a usually triangular landform created by deposits of sediment at the mouth of a river |
| desert | a region of little rainfall where few plants and animals live |
| fjord | a narrow, deep inlet of the sae between high rocky cliffs and created by glaciers |
| floodplain | a landform of level ground built by sediment deposited by a river or stream |
| glacier | a huge mass of ice that moves very slowly over a landmass |
| gulf | a large body of salt water that is partially enclosed by land |
| harbor | a sheltered part of a body of water deep enought to allow anchorage of large ships |
| hill | a raised part of the earth's surface that is smaller than a mountain |
| iceburg | a huge block of floating ice that has broken off a glacier |
| island | a ladmass surrounded by water |
| isthmus | a narrow strip of land conecting two larger land masses |
| lagoon | a shallow body of water that is partly cut off from the sea by a reef |
| lake | an inland body of fresh or salt water |
| marsh | an area of soft low wet land with grassy vegetation |
| mesa | a broad raised area with steep sides and a large flat top |
| mountain | an elevated mass of land with generally steep sides and taller than a hill |
| mountain range | a series of mountain ridges simila in size form and origin |
| mouth (of a river) | where a river flows into another body of water |
| ocean | the body of salt water that covers most of the earth or any of its principal divisions |
| oasis | a fertile place in the desert where there is water and some vegetation |
| peninsula | a landform projecting into a body of water and borded by water on three sides |
| plain | a large low are of flat or rolling land with few trees |
| plateau | and elevated level expanse of land |
| prairie | an extensive area of flat or rolling, predominantly treeless grassland |
| river | a long, natural stream of water that empties into another body of water |
| sea | a large bosy of salt water more or less defined by bodies of land |
| sound | a long relatively wide body of water, larger than a strait or a channet, connecting larger bodies of water |
| strait | a narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water |
| swamp | a low, wet area with woody plants |
| tributary | a stream that feeds a lake or larger stream or river |
| valley | an elongated area of low land between mountains or hills |
