| Republic | a government which the people chose representatives to represent the country. |
| Patrician | A person of high ranking; a noble (upper class) |
| Plebeians | the common people. |
| Senate | a council of elders, you had to be at least 60. a body of 300 men. |
| Consul | the top officials in the republic. |
| Dictator | an absolute ruler (a tyrant) chosen by the senate. |
| Legend | a story handed down from earlier times that may not be true. |
| Province | a division of a country. |
| Assassination | to kill, secretively, or suddenly without trying to be seen. |
| Civil War | a war between groups or within a city. |
| Emperor | the male sovereign or supreme ruler of an empire. |
| Volcano | an opening in the earth. (melted rock) |
| Aqueduct | a conduit or artificial channel for conducting water from a distance, usually by means of gravity. |
| historical Source | writing about the past. |
| parable | a teaching of Jesus in story form. |
| ex Post Facto Law | no law can be used to punish a person before the law was made. |
| romance Language | Latin languages Spanish, French, Italian, Romanian, Portuguese. |

| gladiator | if somebody did something wrong and they make them fight against people, animals or more. |
