Roman vocab

QuestionAnswer
Republic a government which the people chose representatives to represent the country.
Patrician A person of high ranking; a noble (upper class)
Plebeians the common people.
Senate a council of elders, you had to be at least 60. a body of 300 men.
Consul the top officials in the republic.
Dictator an absolute ruler (a tyrant) chosen by the senate.
Legend a story handed down from earlier times that may not be true.
Province a division of a country.
Assassination to kill, secretively, or suddenly without trying to be seen.
Civil War a war between groups or within a city.
Emperor the male sovereign or supreme ruler of an empire.
Volcano an opening in the earth. (melted rock)
Aqueduct a conduit or artificial channel for conducting water from a distance, usually by means of gravity.
historical Source writing about the past.
parable a teaching of Jesus in story form.
ex Post Facto Law no law can be used to punish a person before the law was made.
romance Language Latin languages Spanish, French, Italian, Romanian, Portuguese.
peninsula a body of land surrounded by three sides of water.
gladiator if somebody did something wrong and they make them fight against people, animals or more.
