Define prefix. A word element located at the beginning of a word.
How many different categories of prefixes are there? What are they? Three. They are position, number and measurement, and direction
What do the position prefixes mean? They describe place or location.
What do the number and measurment prefixes mean? They describe an amount, size, or degree of involvement.
Bi- two
Dipl- or Diplo Double
Hemi- one half
Hyper- excessive, above normal
Macro- large
Micro- small
Mono- one
Uni- one
Multi- many, much
Poly- many
Primi- first
Quadri- four
Tri- three
What does direction prefixes describe? They describe a route or path.
Ab- from, away from
Ad- toward
Circum- around
