connective tissue zones/massage

QuestionAnswer
Connective Tissue covers what three elements of the body? Organs, Bones, Muscles
Connective Tissue is composed of a combination of what two parts? Fibrous, Cellular
Fibrous components include: Collagen, Elastin, Ground Substance
Collagen provides what, to the matrix? strength and stability
Collagen are: soft and flexible fibers with limited amount of elasticity
Elastin provide what? stretchability to connective tissue
Elastin have what over Collagen and Ground Substance? higher degree of elasticity
Ground Substance provides: a barrier to pathogens
Ground Substance: fills spaces between fibers, acts as a medium for metabolic activity
Cellular Components of Connective Tissue consist of: Fibroblasts, Mast Cells, Plasma Cells, & Macrophages
Fibroblasts: cells that grow Collagen, Elastin, & Ground Substance
Mast Cells: cells that measure and maintain osmotic balance in Ground Substance
Mast Cells release allergy indicators and what? Histamines
Plasma Cells: produce antibodies to fight infection
Macrophages: Monocytes that assist in cleaning the connective tissue
What are the two types of Connective Tissue? Dense, Loose.
Dense Connective Tissue consists of what? greater amount of fibers, but less ground substance

What are the two types of Connective Tissue? Dense, Loose.
Dense Connective Tissue consists of what? Dense connective tissue is used for connecting tissues together and is under stress than loose connective tissue
Loose connective tissue is more what, than Dense flexible
What are the two subgroups of dense connective tissue? Regular/ Irregular
Regular dense tissue can be found where? tendons/ ligaments
Irregular dense tissue acts as what? acts as a "backing" to skin and other organs
Three important roles of Connective Tissue? 1) acts as a spider web- like skeletal structure, holding organs and tissues in place 2) Involved in metabolism 3) Involved in Immune System
How is Connective Tissue involved in Metabolism? Nutrients, Cells, and Excess pass through
How is Connective Tissue involved in Immune System? Macrophages and Mast Cells work to rid body of pathogens
Connective Tissue Zones are divided into what three levels? Roof, Walls, Footers
Describe where each layer can be located. Roof- Deeper layers of skin Walls- Between roof and muscles Footers- In the muscles between muscular groups and extend to joint capsule and periosteum
What are Connective Tissue Zones? areas of the body that share the same nerves as an organ
An example of a CTZ? the area right of the posterior thorax is connected to the liver
A specific zone will express pathology when what occurs? an organ related to that zone becomes diseased
