What was the Congress of Vienna? Political and Territorial questions were arising from NApolienic Wars and had to be settled to achive stability.
When did the Congress of Vienna begin? Began when Napolean returned from Elba
Who made decisions in the congress of Vienna? Prussia, Russia, Austria, Great Britian, and France.
Who made decisons for Austria? Metternich
How many guiding principles were there for the congress of vienna? There were three guiding principles.
what was the first guiding principle? Countries that suffered most must be compensated.
How much were those countries to be compensated? 700,000,000 Francs.
What was the second guiding principle? Balance of Power in Europe.
How did they achive the balance of power? By giving all countries equal land.
Whaat was the third guiding principle? All decisions would follow the rule of legitimacy. This meant all former rulers would be restored to their thrones.
What was the quadruple Alliance? Discussed intrests and maintain peace.
Who was involoved in the quadruple alliance? Great Britian, Austria, Russia and Prussia
How often did they hld meetings? Priodically to insure all powers were in agreement.
Holy Alliance was? Wanted christian moral principles and sense of duty to guide monarchs.
Who was involved in rhe Holy Alliance? The all European countries except for British,Turkish, and the Pope.
Concert of Europe was? Internatrional gov. maintaining peace maintaing the staus quo or the changes the Congress of vienna put in place.
Who was involoved in the concert of Europe? Great Britain, Austria, Prussia and Russia.
What rights did the allied troops have over France? the could only have 150,00 men, they could only stay for a period of five years, their goal was to protect the neighboring states
How were the boundaries of France affected by the Treaty of Paris? they were restored to the way they were in 1790.
What was the purpose of the Treaty of Paris? To ensure there was not another revoulution in France, and to balacne the powers over France.
Why did liberals and Metterinch not get along? Metternich wanted absolute monarchy, liberals were for individual rights. Metternich surpressed revoulutions by censoring periodicals at schools, and prohibited reforms that conflicted with the absolute monarchy.
What were reactionaries? extremists who opposed change, and wanted to turn the clock back to before major changes in Europe.
Was Metternich a conservative? Yes, a reactionary.
What is nationalism? shared common language, history and culture.
Whay was this a threat to The Congress of Vienna? Because many wanted to return Itallian lands back to Italy for example, change their changes.
