What did the Philioshpes believe in? direct observation and experiment
What did the Philoshpes do that was strange at the time? They started asking questions that targeted feudal system, monarch, and the church
What made the enlightenment different from the scientific revolution? They wanted to change society (feudal, monarch, church)
Enlightenment attempt to tear down feudal system
What did John Locke do? He said that all men are created equal. The peasant doesn't know manners because it was never taught it. A rich baby grown around peasants would be just like a peasant. (Philisophe)
What did John Locke invent? Inaliable rights
What are inaliable rights? right to life, piberty, and pursuit of property
What did Thomas Hobbs believe? That all humans were selfish and that government was unnatral but nesscary
According to Hobbs, what was the purpose of Government? to protect you and your property and the selfishness of other people
What did Rosseau say? He argued that God doesn't give authoruty to the government, people do.
How did the Enlightenment get into the New World? The French and Indian war, fought during the 7 Years War (France vs. Britian)And when England won, the colonists were taxed (Which they fought with enlightenment)
Why did colonists not like being taxed? Because they were taxed but they still had no say in British Parliment. Saying they didn't have inalible rights.
Who is the first country ever to find themselves based on the dieas of enlightenment? United States
What was the French Revolution based on? Bouragize vs. Aritocrats. They did not want religion in government
Why did the French help the Colonists in the US to gain independence from Birtian? The French were bitter from defeat and wanted revenge on England
What changed politically after the American Revolution? More indepence movements
What changed econimcally after the American Revolution? They went back to0 trading normally
What changed socially after the American Revoution? No change
