| Narrow spectrum | an antibiotic which is effective against either GRAM negative or GRAM positive type bacteria, not both. |
| Broad spectrum | an antibiotic that is effective against both GRAM negative and GRAM positive type bacteria |
| Prophylaxis | is any drug or treatment used to prevent a common infection, usually a virus |
