AP World History- Chapter 14 The Latin West 1200- 1500

QuestionAnswer
1200-1500 is known as what in Europe? The Middle Ages
What did Westerners Refer to themselves as? Latins
What did serfs do for their lord? Serfs had to give the lord a share of the harvest and perform services.
Women's status? Women were rarely allowed to join guilds, but they work in unskilled non-guild jobs in the textile industry and in the food and beverage trades.
Three-field system? "new" agriculture technology, they grew crops on two of the three fields. And only did things to make the soil better to the third.
Average life expectancy? thirty to thirty-five years
Black Death casualties? killed one out of three Western Europeans. (one third of the population)
Social results of the Black Death? Aloud rise to a series of peasants and worker uprisings, higher wages, and put an end the serfdom.
New Technologies and where had they been common before? water wheels and windmills (Previously invented in the Islamic world.)
Environmental changes? Environmental damage including water pollution and deforestation. The damming of rivers, and the quarry pits and mines.
