What did the emperors of the tang reform? the civil service exams... jobs now based on merit not family relations. also gave land to farmers and stabilized countryside

How did China regain power in the Tang dynasty? invaded tibet, took control of silk road, forced korea to pay tribute, took control of north vietnam
Why did the Tang dynasty collapse in AD 907? nomadic turks drove out tang armies, revolts in tibet weakened dynasty
What dynasty held an era of prosperity and cultural achievment for china? the Song Dynasty

Why did buddhism become popular in China? It was introduced in a time of chaos, and it offered a way to escape suffering

What did COnfucius and his followers believe about gov't? it depended on wise leaders
Why was neo-confucianism created? to reduce buddhism's popularity
What was the official philosophy of the Song dynasty? neo-confucianism
What did civil service exams test job seekers on? their knowledge of confucian writings
What wealthy class did the exam system create? scholar-officials
What kind of rice was developed in the Tang Dynasty? resistant to disease, grew well in poor soil
Why did people move southward? to grow rice abundantly in the Chiang Jiang Valley
