How Did people travel? People walked, or rode in carts pulled by oxen and mules.ONLY the WEALTHY rode horses. Or they could travel by sea.

Where did travelers get food? they had to bring thier supplies and slaves or pack animals carried bedding food and other nececities.
Why did people travel in groups? It was dangerous to travel alone because you could be attacked by bandits
Why was traveling by boat uncomfotable? The greatest danger was the sea but you could also be attacked by pirates or dishonest saliors. People often drove into rocky shorelines because the sea was unpredictable also ships could sink
What did travelers do before traveling by sea? They gave a gift to posidon
What did most people in anchient greece survive by? Farming!
why was farming hard? there was rocky and dry land with little water.
What did famers do to plant? they created Earth steps
what did famers grow? Wheat, Barley, Olives and Grapes
What was olive oil good for? Fuel for lamps, Cooking and soap
What were bees used for? Honey the best known sweetener in ancient times
What animals did famers raise? Goats and sheep there was no room for cattle
What did the shortage of good farmland cause? Wars beween other city states
Colonist- A person who lives in a colony
Why did people start colonies? people did not have enough food to feed thier people
What are colonies? settlements in distant places
What were the preperations whrn starting a colony? -Ask the Greek "gods" if there journey would be sucessful.(Consulted a oracle) -Gathered food and supplies -Took a flame from the sacred Fire (So they could starta sacred fire in the new Colony
Why was starting a colony difficult? -Long sea journey to survive -Had to find a sutibal place to start -Establish a new community and help to make it survive
What did settlers look for when starting a colony? -They looked for a place with natural harbors -Good farming land -They tried to avoid places where their neighbors would be stronger than them to stop them fromm settleing
From 1000 BCE to 650 BCE what colony was established? Ionia in the Asia Minor what is now Modern Day TURKEY
Where did Greece trade? Among the city-states ant the Medittreain region.
What did Greeks trade? Olive oil,Pottery, grain timber and metal
What was the name of the job that traded on ships? Merchents
Merchent- a person who makes money by selling goods
What were Merchents Ships made of???? wood with a large rectangular cloth as sails
How long would a trip to teh mainland take? around 2 months
What did Greeks use to guide thier ships ? The stars
Monarch- a single ruler such as a king, queen or empororer who holds all the power in a country or empire (a butterfly haha not really.)
aristocrat- a member of the most powerful class in ancint Greece socity
