Define ethnocentrism. Judging another culture/people/activity based upon the values of your own culture.
Define cultural relativism. Evaluating a different culture within the framework of that cultures values and traditions.
Positive Ethnocentrism Belief that your culture/values are the best.
Negative Ethnocentrism Depreciating or designating another culture as inferior compared to your own.
Extreme Negative Ethnocentrism A more powerful group imposes its will on another culture and actively depreciates the things important to the other culture.
Demonstrating Cultural Relativism: Step 1 Establish the cultural context in which the action occurs.
Demonstrating Cultural Relativism: Step 2 Determine the circumstances of time, place, and condition surrounding action.
Demonstrating Cultural Relativism: Step 3 Learn the reasoning underlying the action and the moral value it reflects.
