The Church

Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have comanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
The church is both: Universal and local Visible and invisible Divine and human
As Christians, we are (7 descriptions): Those of the Way; Saints; Chosen; Disciples; Soldiers; Athletes; Laborers
2 Ordinances ( Sacraments) of the church Baptism The Lord's Supper (Communion)
The Church is (7 metaphors): Body; Temple of God; Wife of Christ; Family of God; the Flock; Salt; Light
What does ministry mean in the New Testament? Service
Church The Church is the body of Christ comprised of persons who have been regenerated, whose names are written in the Book of Life
Baptism The ritual which marks entrance into the the body of Christ; is based on faith in Christ; symbolizes the beginning of a new life based on faith in Christ; is celebrated once
The Lord's Supper The ritual of communion in the Church; Celebrates our fellowship w/Christ and one another; symbolizes the continuance of spiritual growth; is based on our connection w/other believers; is celebrated often.
In the NT, "ministry" means Service
Ministry belongs to the whole body of Christ.
Ministry is based on the exercise of spiritual gifts
Why does the Church exist in the world? To evangelize & to be His body; to grow spiritually and to bring others to the knowledge of God
Why does the Church exist as a body? To edifify
Two terms "diakonos" & "doulos" are related to Service
Christians are (7) Those of the way; the chosen; disciples; athletes; saints; soldiers; laborers
