GLPB Swine Breeds - Begginer

Berkshire This breed of swine has ears that are short and erect. The hogs are black with white feed, tail and usually have a splash of white on the face.
Chester White This breed of swine is an American Breed developed in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Chester White This breed of swine are large and pure white, have medium sized ears that droop down over the eyes. They are known for being good mothers.
Duroc This breed of swine originated by crossing red New York and New Jersey hogs in the United States. They grow quickly and efficiently.
Duroc This breed of swine are solid red, but they may range from dark to light shades. They have droopy ears.
Hampshire This breed of swine is easily recognized by its white belt encircling a black body. They have erect ears.
Hereford This breed of swine has a white face, the body must be at least 2/3 red (light or dark), and have at least 2 white feet. White must also be showing not less than one-inch above the hoof.
Poland China This breed of swine originated in Butler and Warren counties in Ohio and are known for being lean and heavy muscled.
Poland China This breed of swine is generally black with 6 white points (all 4 legs, tail and nose). Many have white spots on certain areas of the body. They have droopy ears.
Tamworth, Yorkshire, Hampshire, Berkshire These breeds of swine originated in England.
Tamworth This breed of swine are all red, erect ears, and have a long narrow face and snout.
Spot This breed of swine looks like a Poland China but has much more white on its body.
Spot This breed of swine has droopy ears and is black and white. It is known for being an aggressive breeder and gains weight well.
Yorkshire This breed of swine are long bodied, white hogs with erect ears. The hair or bristles are white and usually the body is white, but sometimes there may be some black pigmentation on the skin.
Yorkshire This breed of swine produce large litters and are known as the mother breed.
Landrace This breed of swine is all white, very long in the body. It has especially large floppy ears and a long snout. It is one of the newer breeds in the US.
Landrace, Yorkshire, Chester White These breeds of swine are known for being a good mother.
Pietrain This breed of swine originated in Belgium. It has a black hair coat with varying amounts of white spots.
Pietrain This breed of swine was originally bred for their extreme muscle volume and leanness.
Berkshire, Hampshire, Tamworth, Yorkshire These breeds of swine have erect ears.
Chester White, Duroc, Poland China, Spot, Landrace These breeds of swine have droopy ears.
Duroc, Spot These breeds of swine are known for their growth characteristics.
