NHTC 12 Orthopedics Actions of Muscles

TermMeaning
adduction movement toward the midline of the body
supination to turn the palm upward
extension to increase the angle of a joint
flexion to decrease the angle of a joint
dorsiflexion to elevate the foot
abduction movement away from the midline of the body
plantar flexion to lower the foot (point the toes)
pronation to turn the palm downward
rotation movement of the arm in a circular motion
flexion the opposite of extension
