Akkadian Empire Led by Sargon, first empire in Mesopotamia. Imposes Akkadian culture. Uses Sumerian for religious purposes. Located north of Sumer
Assyrian Empire Rule with brutal force. Library and spy network. Destroyed Babylon
Babylonian Empire Led by Hammurabi, second empire. first written law. Code of Hammurabi.
Persians Empire Invade from modern Iran. Largest so far. Tolerant. Expanded across Mediterranean and Egypt. Halted by Greeks.
Macedonian Empire (Not part of chapter.) Defeated Greeks and Persians. Larger than All listed.
Roman Empire (Not part of chapter) Controlled Mediterranean Sea. At it's height controlled Gaul, Asia Minor, and Mesopotamia
Ottoman Empire (7th Grade)Centered in Modern Turkey or Asia Minor or Antonia (Northern Mesopotamia)
Safavid Empire (7th Grade)Centered in Persia (Modern Iran) (Southern Mesopotamia)
Phoenicia Known for trade. Traded purple dye and cedar primarily. Invented alphabet and founded Carthage. (Egypt and Israel were allies but often under same foreign rule)

Code of Hammurabi Set of 282 laws. First written law.

Moving towers Invention by Assyrians to invade other city-states
Chariot A fast horse drawn weapon used by Hittites an explained their successes
Seals Seals were placed on possessions and showed ownership. showed battle scenes, religious events, and highly decorated with expensive and precious stones
