| Compress | a soft, moist, absorbent cloth that is folded in several layers and applied to a part of the body in the local application of heart or cold |
| Edema | the retention of fluid in the tissues, resulting in swelling |
| Erythema | reddening of the skin caused by dilation of superficial blood vessels in the skin |
| Long arm cast | a cast that extends from the axilla to the fingers of the hand, usually with a bend in the elbow |
| Long leg cast | a cast that extends from the midthigh to the toes |
| Maceration | the softening and breaking down of the skin as a result of prolonged exposure to moisture |
| Orthopedist | a physician who speacializes in the diagnosis amd treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system, which includes the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves |
