A-E vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Associate's degree Awarded by a vocational technical school or a community college after completion of a prescribed two-year course of study
Bachelor's degree Awarded by a college or university after a prescribed course of study that usually lasts for four or more years
Doctorate; doctor's degree Awarded by a college or university after completion of two or more years of work beyond a bachelor's or master's degree.
Certification means that a person has fulfilled requirements of the education and performance and meets the standards and qualifications established by the professional association or government agency that regulates a particular association.
Continuing education units (CEUSs) Are required to renew licenses or maintain certification or registration in many states.
Entrepreneur An individual who organizes, manages, and assumes the risk of a business.
Endodontics Treatment of diseases of the pulb, nerve, blood vessels, and roots of the teeth ; often called root canal treatment.
Dentists (DMD or DDS) Are doctors who examine teeth and mouth tissues to diagnose and treat disease and abnormalities, perform surgery on the teeth, gums and tissues, and work to prevent dental disease.
Dental hygiene work under the supervision of dentists.
Dental laboratory technicians Make and repair a variety of dental prostheses such as dentures, crowns, bridges, and orthodontic appliances according to the specifications of dentists.
Dental assistants (DA) Working under the supervision of the dentists, prepare patients for examinations, pass instruments,prepare dental materials, take and develop x-rays, teach preventive gentle care, and sterilize instruments.
Electrocardiograph/ technician Operate electrocardiograph machines, which record electrical impulses that originate in the heart.
Cardiovascular technologist and associate's or bachelor's degress reads to the position
Electro encephalographic technologists Operates an instrument called an electro encephalograph which records the electrical activity of the brain
Electron diagnostic technologist Perform nerve conduction tests, measure sensory and physical responses to specific stimuli, and operate other monitoring devices
Emergency medical technician Formal training is available in all states and is offered by fine, police, and health departments, hospitals etc.
Admitting officers/clerks Work in the admissions departments of a health care facility. Responsible for obtaining all necessary info when a patient is admitted to the facility. Assigning rooms
Central/sterile supply workers Involved in ordering, maintaing, and supplying all the equipment and supplies used by other departments in a health care facility
Doctor of medicine Diagnosis, treats, and prevents diseases or disorders
Doctor of osteopathic medicine Treats diseases, disorders, placing special emphases on the nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems, and the relationship between the body, mind, and emotions.
Doctor of chiropractic Focuses on ensuring proper alignment of the spine and optimal operation of the nervous system to maintain health
Embalmers Prepare the body for interment by washing the body with germicidal soap, replacing the blood with embalming fluid to preserve the body, reshaping and restricting disfigured bodies.
Dietitians Manage food service systems, asses patients/residents, nutritional needs, plan menus, teach others proper nutrition and special diets, purchase food and equipment.
Dietetic technicians Plan menus; order foods; standardize and test recipes
Dietetic assistants Assist with food preparation and service; help patients select menus; clean work areas
Audiologists provide care to individuals who have hearing impairments
Art, music and dance therapists Help patients deal with social, physical, or emotional problems
Athletic trainers Prevent and treat athletic injuries and provide rehabilitative services to athletes.
