Vishnu "the preserver" Hindu god of life
Siva "the destroyer" Hindu god of death and rebirth
Brahmins group at the top of the caste system (priests, etc)
Kshatriyas the 2nd highest group in the caste system (nobility, warriors, royalty)
Pariahs/untouchables/outcastes group that was considered unclean and not even a part of the caste system
reincarnation rebirth of the soul in both Hinduism and Buddhism
polytheism belief in more than one god. Example: Hinduism
Siddhartha Gautama founder of Buddhism
Enlightened One aka Buddha. It is what Siddhartha Gautama's followers had begun to call him
cultural diffusion the spread of Buddhism from India to China, Japan and SE Asia is an example of this.
Four Noble Truths Buddhist idea: life is suffering, suffering is caused by desire, to eliminate suffering you must eliminate desire, to eliminate desire you must follow the Eightfold Path
Eightfold Path Buddhist idea: 8 things that must be done in order to eliminated desires.
nirvana end to the cycle of reincarnation in Buddhism
Mauryan Empire Asoka ruled this empire at it's height when it covered 2/3 of India
Gupta Empire Often called the Golden Age of India or the Golden Age of Hindu culture
math and science the Golden Age of India (during the Gupta) involved many achievements in these areas
India this is where Hinduism and Buddhism started and where the Mauryan and Gupta Empires governed.
