What is History? The study of the human past and the documented story of change over time.
Chronological "Arranged in the order of time"
What does the word "continuum" mean? "An unbroken range, sequence, or whole."
What does the word "Latitude" mean? Which way do the lines go on the Earth? "Imaginary lines that circle the Earth from East to West (horizontally). The Equator is a line of latitude."
What does the word "Longitude" mean" Which way do the lines go on the Earth? "Imaginary lines that circle the Earth from North to South (vertically). The Prime Meridian is a line of longitude."
How do we define what "oceans" are? “The ocean is the body of salt water that covers 70 percent of the Earth’s surface and is divided into four primary oceans.”
What does a "cartographer" do? Create accurate maps.
Who were the "Bourgeoisie"? The class of society that, in contrast to the proletariat or wage-earning class (the “workers”), is primarily concerned with property values.
What is "tyranny"? “Haphazard or wild exercise of power; absolute abuse of authority.”
When did the Reformation take place? What was created as a result of the Reformation? “The religious movement in the 16th century whose main goal was the reform of the Roman Catholic Church. This led to the creation of Protestant churches.”
Who were the "Boyars"? “A member of a former privileged social class in Romania.”
When did the Italian Renaissance take place? What change did this period of history mark? “Means ‘rebirth’”. The activity, spirit, or time of the great revival of art, literature, and learning in Europe beginning in the 14th century (1300’s) and covering the 17th century (1600’s), marking the change from the medieval to the modern world.
What is a "City – state"? Give one example of a city-state. “An independent state made up of a self-governing city with its colonies.” There were many city - states in the Roman Republic (before Rome became an Empire).
What is the Relative Location of a place? The location in relation to something else. Example: Burger King is by the Muncie Mall.
What is the Absolute Location of a place? The exact location of a place; labeled using latitude and longitude coordinates.
