Phlebotomy Routine Veinipuncture Key Terms

| Antecubital Fossa | a depression at the bend of the elbow. |
| Bar Codes | Labels with information pertaining to tests and Patient. Usually attached to requisition form |
| Basilic Vein | Located on the elbow side of the arm (bottom side) |
| Cephalic Vein | Located on the thumb side of the arm |
| Hematoma | Pooling of blood under the skin. (Bruise) |
| Hemoconcentration | decrease of the fluid content (plasma) of the blood, with increased concentration of formed elements. |
| Identification Band | Used to properly ID PT. |
| Median Cubital Vein | Located in the center of the arm, at the antecubital fossa |
| Palpation | The examination of the body using the sense of touch. |
| Requisition | Form with information pertaining to Pt, and required tests, also release of liability. |
| Blood to anticoagulant ratio | Allow tubes ti fill until the vacuum is exhausted. Double check fill line. |
