5. How was the Alaska boundary dispute decided? by a tribunal of judges: 6 judges 3 American, 2 Canadian, and 1 from Britain.
1. What was the Naval issue? /2 English Canadians wanted the government to give Britain money to build warships(dreadnoughts) but French Canadians wanted Canada to have its own navy.
2. How was the naval service act a compromise? Canada would have its own navy but it could be loaned to England in case of emergency
3. What event prompted the Alaska boundary dispute? The Klondike Gold rush
4. What is the Alaska Panhandle? The coastline extending south of Alaska.
6. What did the tribunal decide? The Americans got, Skagway, the only port into the Klondike.
7. What did getting Skagway mean? This means that the Americans can tax all the gold coming out of the Klondike.
12. What city owes its existence to the Gold rush? Dawson City
11. What did the Mounties require of every Gold miner? A Ton of supplies
10. Which pass did Gold miners have to climb to get into the Klondike? The Chilkoot Pass
8. Why did the British judge decide for America? Because he wanted America to support Britain in her boundary dispute in South America.
9. Why did the Victoria daily colonist say “Canada’s hands are now tied”? Canada depended on Britain to protect its interests but they didn’t.
13. What territory exists because of the Gold Rush? Yukon
