Complexity Theory The study of complex and chaotic systems and how order, pattern, and structure can arise from them. This is important to history becasue the world is made up on diffrent ideas and beliefs and sometimes its chaotic.We were able to agree and make it work.
Ice Age It usually refers to the ones that occurred at least 2.7 billion years ago. During an Ice Age the temperature of the Earth's surface and atmosphere decreases dramatically and is long-term. It was thought that dinosaurs became extinct because of this.
Goldilocks Principle Where things have to fall within a certain margin and it can't go to any extremes in order to be in perfect balance. For example the earth can't be to close or to far away from the sun, or it can't support life.
Gaia The greek goddess personifying earth, the greek version of "Mother Nature", or the earth mother. They believed that the earth was like a living organism and instead of thinking they owned the earth they thought they were using it.
Agrarian Revolution Man no longer hunted for food, shortage possibility decreased worldwide.
Entropy A thermodynamic quantity representing the unavailability of a system's thermal energy for conversions into mechanical work. Ideas from the 18th century brought the information that was needed to produce mechanical productivity with heat.
Emergence It is the way complex systems/patterns come from a multiplicity of simple interactions. The Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland was created 50-60 million years ago when subjected to volcanic activity.
Integration The intermixing of people or groups previously segregated. This is important to history because history deals with diffrent groups coming together and working as one, an example would be the relationship between the indians and the pilgrams.
Paradox A seemingly true statement or group of statements that lead to a contradiction that seems to defy logic. There is the saying that although we have taller buildings today, we grew shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower views.
Theory A well-developed hypothesis that is backed up with evidence and data gathered from many different trials and sources. As time goes on new evidence is presented and the theory changes according to the new information.
Evolution When something has diversified and changed throughout time.This explained how the organisms living in this world have survived.
Regime Set rules that regulate the operation of government and its interactions with society. Regime is important to history because the French Regime was a result of the many civil wars.
