| Question | Definition | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Complexity | The state or quality of being intricate or complicated. | Europe transformed intellectually, technically and economically, based off scientific approach in the industrial revolution. There were many discoveries in magnetism, electricity, astronomy and chemistry. It was a growing time of human achievements. |
| Ice Age | A series of glacial episodes during the Pleistocene period. | It was a long term reduction in the temperature of the Earth's surface and atmosphere. It helps us understand world history because it was a time that changed people's lives drastically by making it difficult surviving in the extremely cold weather. |
| Goldilocks Principle | It's to determine whether something is "just right" and provides possible conditions on Earth to support life. | This helps understand world history because it shows that there are certain circumstances that are able to sustain life for human beings. Earth is able to function in a way where we can live because of its factors that's able to help us have life. |
| Gaia | It's an idea and theory that the Earth is a living organism. It was a belief that all ancient civilizations and indigenous thought that the Earth was alive and treated them as living organisms. | This hypothesis inspired various interpretation in science. Indigenous and Ancient Civilizations thought the Earth was a living thing while Western society saw the Earth as something to own. There was a conflict between these two ideas. |
| Agrarian Revolution | It was a change in farming methods that allowed for greater production of food. | This helps understand world history that technology has grown over time. It was the use of new farming technology such as seed drill. There was a rapid increase in agricultural productivity and great improvements in farm technology. |
| Entropy | It's lack of order/predictability. | Erwin Schrodinger used entropy for biology in 1944, saying that hereditary carriers should be small in size and permanent in form. Entropy was not similar with the theory of evolution, and therefore it created conflict between the two. |
| Emergence | Emergence is central to the theories of integrative levels and of complex systems. | It helps us understand world history because when the first of civilizations emerged, organized architecture, religion and scientific progressed. It has major contribution to our understanding of the development of urban culture and social stratification. |
| Integration | It's the intermixing of people or things that were segregated before. | Integration helps us understand world history because it shows how things that are mixed were previously segregated. For example, the Tang Dynasty was a combination of Taoism,Confucianism, Buddhism and Chinese folk religion. |
| Paradox | A self-contradictory statement that leads to a conclusion that seems senseless. | A paradox helps you understand world history more because it shows that some conclusions seem like a statement of contradiction. This is what we see as philosophy; the study of general and fundamental problems. |
| Theory | It is a belief on which a sets an idea used to account for a situation or justify a course of action. | It helps us understand world history because it describes many ideas of explanations that were believed possible based on beliefs. Theorys lead to advances in intelligence and technology through discoveries. |
| Evolution | The process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the Earth. | This helps us understand world history since it is a theory of how humans were descendants of apes. Religious followers believed God created them, while evolutionists believed apes evolved into humans. This created a conflict between science and religion. |
| Regime | A government that enforces its planned ways of doing things. | A regime helps us understand world history because it impacted our political history. The government was in power. A regime set rules that regulated the operation of government and affected the interactions within society. |
