Complexity Theory It is the state or quality of being intricate or complicated. This theory states that "critically interacting components self-organize to form potentially evolving structures exhibiting a hierarchy of emergent system properties".
Ice Age The Ice Age is a glacial episode during a past geological period. This glacial period was significant in history due to the Pleistocene period which saw and caused the evolution and expansion of the human race.
Goldilocks Principle "Venus is too hot and Mars is too cold, but Earth is just right". This principle explains why life is unsustainable on these other planets. This is significant in history because many people have thought that it is possible to live on other planets.
Gaia The Gaia principle is the theory that the earth is a living organism; like a body. The effect of this is that all indigenous civilizations believed that the earth was an organism. Humans are part of it, they don't own it.
Agrarian Revolution In Britain,this revolution was caused by agriculture.Historically the revolution in Britain changed the lives of many women by the advancement of new technologies and machinery which made the need for the help of a women on a farm unnecessary.
Entropy Classical thermodynamics created a "state variable" called entropy. An equation defines what it is. It is the measure of a disorder of a system it determines whether the system will increase or decrease, leading up to how the universe is disordered.
Emergence The process of coming into being, or of becoming important or prominent.The emergence of the environmental movement. In a sense something occurring that is particularly important.
Integration Combining one or two things so they become a whole. significant in US history because this country has struggled a lot over the debate about different colored skin and race. And this country has integrated so all races and colors have the same rights.
Paradox A statement or proposition that, despite sound reasoning from acceptable premises, leads to a conclusion that seems senseless, logically unacceptable and self-contradictory.
Theory A supposition or system of ideas intended to explain something, esp. one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained. A theory is undetermined if given the available evidence to support it.
Evolution The process of which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms over time. Its significance is that many things evolve over time and that without evolution things wouldn't be what they are today.
Regime A government, esp. an authoritarian one thats imposed from above. It can be caused by an overthrow of a government by a foreign power. One unfriendly e.g. is when the U.S made it a goal to invade Iraq and promote the emergence of a democratic government.
