What was the Caste System? an Indian system of social classes based on the jobs people did
What is reincarnation? the Hindu & Buddhist belief that a soul is reborn over & over again into new bodies based on a person's behavior in life
What is the 8-Fold Path of Buddhism? Buddhist guidelines for a happy life free from suffering
Who was Mahatma Gandhi? The Indian civil rights leader who fought for Indian independence using peaceful protest and non-violent marches
What is ahimsa? The Hindu belief in being non-violent
What does it mean to boycott something? To protest by not buying or using certain products or companies
What is satyagraha? Protesting in a peaceful, non-violent way
What are civil rights? The rights that all people have just by being citizens
What is civil disobedience? breaking laws to protest unfair government practices or actions
Who was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? The American civil rights leader who fought for equality & civil rights for African-Americans using only peaceful, non-violent methods.
What is racism? Treating someone differently or unfairly just because of their race or color.
What was the Children's March? A march in Birmingham Alabama to protest the unfair treatment of African-Americans where children marched and were arrested instead of adults
What is the Great Wall of China? A structure built along the northern border of China to protect them from invaders
What was the Grand Canal? A waterway linking northern and southern China that greatly improved trading
What was the Silk Road? A trading route between ancient China and Europe.
What was the Forbidden City? A huge palace complex that common people were not allowed to enter
What was a dynasty? A series of rulers or emperors from the same family
Who was Confucius? A Chinese philosopher who taught about morality, family, society & government.
What was the Civil Service System in China? A system in which people had to pass a test to show they were qualified to hold government jobs.
List the groups in the Caste System. Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya & Shudra
Explain some of the jobs of each group in the Caste System. Brahmin = priests, teachers, religious cooks Kshatriya = warriors, protectors, politicians Vaishya = merchants, shopkeepers, traders Shudra = servants, gardeners, carpenters, herdsmen
