What is neotony? How does it relate to the domestication process? Neotony is retention of juvenile characters in mature individuals. Relates to domestication because juvenile traits where promoted because of a tendency to be submissive.
Some behavioral and physical characteristics of neotony. Behavioral: submissive behavior Physical: rounded skull; high forehead;large eyes;short snout
What are some examples of indirect cultural evidence of domestication? deliberate burial; pathologies; material evidence; wall paintings; animal figurines
Why are changes in demographic profiles of animals represented in archaeological materials important? Shows evidence of herd management and selective harvesting.
What are some animals that show reduced body size related to domestication? Larger body size? What may have caused these changes in size? -sheep,goats,pigs,cattle -guinea pigs,chickens -Allows for easier handily or more meat.
