Middle Ages Vocab

Vocab Definitions

Dark Ages Was the bad times of the Middle Ages
Pope Head of the Roman Catholic Church.
Vikings Fine soilders who came from nothern Europe.
Charlemage A King which became strong enought to unite all Western Europe.
Feudalism A political and military system based on the holding of land.
Fief Land, and everything on it, which a lord gave to a vessel.
Knight A soldier who fought for a Lord.
Lord A King or a noble who gave land to someone else
Page A young noble who learned certain behaviours to become a knight.
Peasant A poor farmer or farmworker.
Vassal A person who recieved land from a king or noble and gave loyalty in return.
Manor The part of fief that peasants farm for the lord.
Serf A peasant who was bound to the land and whose life was controlled by the lord or the manor.
Bishop A priest who is in charge of other priests and a number of churches.
Parliament The English council or lawmaking assembly.
